The results confirmed the Big Bang Theory of the origin of the universe, as well as eliminate many theories about the Big Bang, a foundation of Earth science helping show the origins of its creation.  With a precision of 0.005%, the mission  paved the way and set higher expectations for the Precision of measurements  in cosmology. The team was even awarded the 2006 Gruber cosmology prize for their groundbreaking studies.
