Spiro
Agnew
Spiro Agnew was Nixon's Vice President from 1969 until his resignation in 1973. Agnew was even more hated by the democrats than Nixon was, and Nixon viewed him as impeachment insurance. Not even the democrats would trade Nixon for Agnew, so when he resigned Nixon lost his insurance. Why did he resign? He was under criminal investigation for possible charges of bribery, extortion, and tax evasion. After weeks of negotiating with prosecutors and White House lawyers, Agnew pleaded no contest, which allowed him to avoid jail time but forced him to resign his position. The new Vice President was Gerald Ford.
