Although CATS was intended to last for only six months, it surpassed its life expectancy by more than two years. It stopped operating on October 30th, 2017 when the power and data system failed to work for good. CATS will be forever known for its innovative technology and numerous accomplishments in tracking pollution from human activity, wildfire smoke, dust storms, and volcanic eruptions.
